Take the rockabilly of the Stray Cats, cross it with Social Distortion's loud, screaming punk guitars and add a dose of Bette Midler's irreverent 1970s stage personna...voila, you have Vancouver's Big John Bates and the Voodoo Dollz - as seen Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 headlining at The Aquarium in downtown Fargo. Rock and roll cut with burlesque is the show they put on - leave the kiddies home, mom and dad - but Bates obviously didn't start playing the guitar yesterday - he really smokes on his axe.
